B.O.Q. : an NCIS Special Agent Fran Setliff novel / N. P. Simpson.

Simpson, N. P. (Author).

Summary:

People often stay at the Bachelor Officers' Quarters (B.O.Q.) when they return to Camp Lejeune to visit friends or shop at the Base Exchange. But unlike Ann Buckhalter, their dead bodies aren't found floating in the New River. Special Agent Fran Setliff and her Naval Criminal Investigative Service team soon discover that more than one person's life has been simplified by Ann's death. Like Ann's widowed husband, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel who may have had suspicions about his wife. And the Navy psychiatrist who might have known Ann better than he claims. And the commanding general who may believe she was in possession of a career-destroying tape. And the chief of staff who has bigger family problems than a boy-crazy daughter. Fran's investigation endangers her own life. A break-in occurs at her house. She discovers a possible bomb. Alone at the river one night, she courts the same fate as Ann Buckhalter, Even Captain Vic Maldonado, the lawyer from the Judge Advocate's Office who may have more than a professional interest in Fran, seems to have questionable motives. As Fran delves deeper into Ann Buckhalter's secrets, she begins to glimpse the unsavory things that go on behind the camouflage curtain - gender and racial discrimination, unethical medical practices, homophobia, sexual indiscretions. As a freelance journalist for the local civilian newspaper, Ann was in a position to ruin more than one promising military career. But who killed her? -- Jacket flap.
